My Mock Draft

I got nothing, nada, zilch which is about as much as all these draft gurus have.

The end

This is not something that I really wanted to write about because for one, I know it is a very sensitive subject for a lot of people.  I know, last week I wrote a post about Rangers fans using the N word on twitter towards Wayne Simmonds but that’s as far as I wanted to go on the subject of race.  Over the last week, since hearing the tapes of Clippers owner, Donald Sterling and with his lifetime banned from the NBA and soon to be sale of the team, I have witnessed so many ignorant facebook posts, tweets and callers to our local sports radio stations.  These people are angry because this man made remarks (that some do not find racial) in the confinement of his own home to this V. dude and because of this he is being punished with the stiffest penalty ever given by the NBA.  I cannot tell you how many callers I’ve heard on the Fanatic and WIP this week crying and asking why is it ok for black people to be racist but a big deal when it’s white people.  I even got into an argument on facebook and twitter with one gentleman and really, his posts are what got me to think really long and hard about this racism thing.  Let me just show you the posts from my man Chris before I go any further.

Chris’s original post on facebook which started this whole thing was him wondering why it’s only an issue when white people say something racist.  Now, let me get into the part that I really and truly never wanted to debate with anyone.

Racism as a whole needs to get lost.  There is no place on this earth for it.  Reading things like this make me so sick in my stomach and start to question every non minority I associate with and I hate that.  I hate looking or talking to one of my friends and wonder if they have the same feelings as Chris but I have found myself doing that so much lately and it bothers me.  What bothers me even more is knowing there are people out there that really feel black people should thank whites (as Chris called them in his tweet) because they have done so much for blacks over the years.  It bothers me knowing that people like Chris think that we owe them for letting our people be free and that we should feel privileged to have this freedom.  I said on that to get to this point.  I hate racism, I lived with my white grandfather from the time I was a little girl until I was in my 20’s and he was a racist.  He used the N word every day and even though I knew he hated black people, I knew he loved me and my daughters.  I also grew to understand that that was the era he grew up in.  The reason I’m saying this is, people always get mad and try to get into the “reverse racism” thing.  I know a lot of you will probably go crazy over this but, I understand why black people would have so much hate towards white people.  Let me explain.  I work with an older black woman and she does not like white people.  Every time she says something smart, I cuss her out but in reality, I understand.  The older generation of black people, grew up in the middle of all the racial tensions in this country.  They were the ones who had to deal with segregation.  They are the ones who were told to sit in the back of the bus.  Their ancestors before them were the ones who were slaves in this country.  Hell, I was born in the 60’s and I know how it felt.  Not to the extent they did but I was called a N all the time.  My mom was called a N lover when she would go places with me.  I was not allowed to go to the pool with my cousins because I wasn’t white.  I get it!  I was talking to two older black attorneys who frequent the courthouse all the time.  They told me about how hard it was for them to get into not just college but law school because they were black.  Listening to their stories, I couldn’t even imagine what they went through.  The thing about these two wonderful women is, they do not harbor any hard feelings towards anyone but really, I could understand if they did.  I’m not even sure if it’s that black people are racist towards whites as much as they just don’t trust them and I understand that too.  This is why when I see people like Josh Innes tweet about Spike Lee being racist it angers me because in reality, just like me, Spike has lived through the racism.  I know some of you are going to call me ignorant for what I have written and that’s fine.  Just know, I treat everyone the same (which is like shit) because I don’t like any race of people.   🙂

I wish I had the answers on how to stop racism once and for all but I don’t.  I just know that when I raised my daughters, I taught them many lessons of life with the biggest being to never treat anyone any differently because of their color, religion or anything else that makes them different from them.

You’re Calling Us Classless?

Posted: April 20, 2014 in Sports

Yesterday when I was reading twitter, (which is every hour that I’m awake) somebody retweeted the picture below onto my timeline.  It’s safe to say I was a little pissed because once again, we have another lazy media person who figured they’d take a shot at Philly fans. I nicely sent Mr. Rothenberg a tweet after reading this and of course I got no response.  Today when I was watching the Flyers/Rangers game, Rangers fans (with all the class they have) decided they were going to boo an injury so I tweeted Rothenberg again and got the response, “right.”  Nice answer.

As the game was going on, some of my followers started retweeting racial tweets from Rangers fans about Wayne Simmonds.  Being the person I am, I decided to tweet these pictures and a few more to my old friend Rothenberg so he can see who really has the classless fans.  Guess what, I got no response.

It makes me sick in my stomach that Philly fans get killed for booing Santa and throwing snowballs but the media never has anything to say about things like what’s in the above pictures.  Oh, I’m sorry, they do make a big deal about it when a football player from Philly gets caught on video saying it, then it’s headline news for 3 months. It makes me sick in my stomach that as a half black woman, in this day and age, I still have to see this word used as a derogatory way of putting black people down.  It makes me sick in my stomach when people tell me I need to get over it.  Get over it?  Yea I’ll get over it when racist jackasses like the 2 above don’t exist anymore.

I don’t want to get deep into the use of the N word because all I am trying to do in this post is prove that there are fan bases out there who do or say worse things than Philly fans but  I guess it’s ok in the eyes of the media to call someone the N word as long as you’re not throwing snowballs at them at the same time.

Sorry the pictures aren’t clear but you get the point.

History in the Making?

Posted: March 29, 2014 in Sports

Tonight my beloved Philadelphia 76’ers have the chance to make history.  When I think of one of my teams making history, this is not what comes to mind.  Tonight if the Sixers lose against the Detroit Pistons, they will have broken the record for most consecutive losses in NBA history.  Right now they are tied with Cleveland at 26 straight losses and I am hoping it stays that way.  I know many wanted the Sixers to tank the season or as said on twitter go WinlessForWiggins but being a fan of the team since I was a little girl, I cannot sit here and cheer for them to lose.  Every night, I watch and and cheer for this group of players who I know have no business being on an NBA roster and wouldn’t be if the Sixers’ organization wasn’t obviously tanking the season.  It upsets me watching this once proud organization with such a strong, rich tradition, trade away most of their starters, sign guys who were just working at McDonalds or playing basketball on the playground, take the court every night and made to look like fools and become the laughing stock of the NBA and the butt of the jokes on late night tv.  It upsets me knowing that Sixers fans are hoping that the team makes history tonight with their 27th straight loss.  It upsets me that Sixers fans aren’t going to the game tonight to show their support and cheer them to win, they are going to the game to cheer for the loss.

Let me explain something to you.  In either 2007 or 2008, the Phillies became the first team to 10,000 losses.  We get made fun of for that.  The Eagles have never won a Superbowl and if that’s not bad enough, this year we sat and watched another team win their first before us.  We get made fun of for that.  The Flyers haven’t won a Stanley Cup in like 50 years (exaggerating a little) and we get made fun of for that.  It’s not only the things the teams have done or not done over the years, we have to hear about booing Santa and throwing snowballs at him; throwing batteries at players; booing players when they got hurt on the field; vomiting on fans; So with all this, why would you want something else for people to talk about?  You know if the Sixers make history tonight, the next record they break will be most consecutive losses in the history of sports.  Yea, that’s something I want following my team around.

This team is not good, we all know that but one thing I will say about this group, they go out there every night and play their hearts out.  I cannot root against that.  It’s not their fault they were put in this situation.  They don’t deserve to have a few thousand people sitting in the building tonight rooting for them to lose.  They deserve for the fans who will be there to cheer for them and be excited for them when they do break the streak tonight!

Pam oh Pam

Posted: February 4, 2014 in Sports

I’m kind of mad that I have to write a post about this but I think it has to be done.  First let me say, I love Pam Oliver and I respect the work she has done all these years as a sideline reporter.  She is one of the best in the business in my opinion.  Over the last couple of years, it seems that Pam’s wigs have taken a turn for the worse.  When the cut to Pam during the Niners/Seahawks game a couple weeks ago, I thought I was going to fall out of my chair.  Who the hell let Pam put Shannon Sharpe’s mane on her head and walk out in front of the camera?

I have gone on a few rants over the last few weeks about her hair and I have been called a hater, ignorant and one woman tweeted me this long dissertation which went like this.

“No, you don’t get it.  You are young and don’t have a clue Teri.  This woman is doing her stuff 4 decades.  Probably longer                  than you’ve been alive.  Women have enuf pressure to be validated based on stupidity.  What happens is that you young ppl                fall in line w/ the b.s. you’ve been fed.  This woman is in her 50’s!”

These were 2 of the 6 or 7 tweets this woman (who I have no clue who she is) sent me and the main  reason I decided to write this post.  You do not have to agree with what I’m about to say and I’m fine with that.

To me, the woman who tweeted me doesn’t get it.  When people think about sports reporting, they don’t think about women doing it.  It’s sports, that is a man’s job so when you have women sideline reporters you need to stay on your game.  It’s hard enough for women to be in this profession let alone a black woman to be succeeding in it.  Pam has both of those “strikes” against her.  Recently Pam commented on the outrage that has been directed towards her and her wigs and basically said she doesn’t care what people think about her hair and she would hope they look at her work instead.  I agree with her to a certain point but like I said, being a woman, you have to stay on top of your game.  How can she not worry about looking her best when she walks out onto that field?  How can she not worry about a younger, prettier woman coming along and taking her job?  Let me think, you are in your 50’s, you look a mess in front of the camera and on the other side of the field is cute little Erin Andrews with her pigtails and hundreds of other women trying to get their chance to have the dream job you have but you’re not worried about what you look like.

Is it fair that women are judged differently than men when it comes to certain things? No but she is in a profession where it’s all about competition and if Pam or any other woman sports reporter lets themselves go, I’m sure their employee would have no problem showing them the door and hiring the next pretty face.

So with that said, yes Pam, you should care about what you look like.  If you want to lay around your house on an off day like that, fine but when you are in front of millions of people, girl you gotta bring it and stop putting those God awful wigs on your head.

I would like to take a minute to have a moment of silence for the Dallas Cowboys……. Ok long enough.  Once again you did not let us down.  You gave us another December to remember moment and we will always be thankful for that.

I can’t even lie, I was a nervous wreck watching that game.  The Cowboys looked like they wanted that game more than the Eagles did.  They came to play and I have to give them credit for that.  I have another confession, I turned the game off when there was about 2:00 left and they were trying to get into field goal position to win the game.  I had to, I thought I was going to faint.  I couldn’t take it anymore.  I heard my neighbor run outside screaming, I started screaming and had no idea why until I turned the game back on.  Thank God Kyle Orton did his best Romo impersonation.  I was so hyped up after that game that I did not fall asleep til like 2 a.m.  I didn’t care that I was dead ass tired when I got up 4 hours later.  WE WERE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!  To be honest, if we would have lost to the Cowboys, the season would have been a total failure to me.  I don’t feel like that anymore.  Now that we are in the playoffs, this season has been a bigger success than anyone could have expected.

I am not here to give you breakdowns and matchups for the game on Saturday.  That’s not my job.   I am here as a fan who uses her blog as an outlet to vent my frustration for my teams or show love to them which I haven’t been able to do much lately.  I do want to say this though.  For all of you who are going to the game on Saturday, first and foremost, please dress warmly.  I don’t want to have to write up an incident report because someone lost a finger or a toe because of the cold weather.  Second, please, please, please be loud!  The Saints have a problem when the stadium is too loud, so we need to make sure Drew Brees cannot hear himself think when he’s out there.  If this team has ever needed you to be loud, it’s now.  Don’t let them down.

Before I go, let me throw this out there.  I know  some of you are about to get mad but get over it.  Saints 34-28.  That’s all I’m sayin.

Winner Takes All

Posted: December 27, 2013 in Sports

I’m really not doing a good job keeping up with my blog this year so like Andy Reid once (or a millions times) said, “I gotta do a better job.” First let me say, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and has a safe New Year.

Now let’s move on to what will hopefully be the best Christmas gift for Eagles fans, a good old fashion ass whoopin of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night for the division championship.  Before the season, I picked the Eagles to finish last in the division.  Yea, I was wrong.  Who would have thought that in week 17, we’d be playing not just meaningful football in December but playing for the division. I know some of you are out there right now patting yourselves on the back saying, “I did, I did!”  Yea ok if you say so.  It’s crazy if you think about it.  At one time this season, we were 3-5 and it looked like it was going to be that kind of season again.  Here we were, in November and we still have not won a home game in over a year.  If that wasn’t bad enough, one of those home losses was to our old coach Andy Reid which is something that was not supposed to happen.  Nothing was going right for us again in Philadelphia sports.  We had nothing to look forward to, once again.

Ok I’m not going to get into all the specifics because I’m pretty sure all of you have watched every game this season and don’t need me giving you a refresher so let me just get to the point of this post.  We had a 5 game winning streak going into the December 15th game against the Minnesota Vikings.  The Eagles were picked to win this game easily, no way they lose when their star running back AP is out of the game along with his backup.  No way in hell we lose to Matt Cassell  and some running back named Asiata or whatever his name is.  This was the first time I picked the Eagles to win a game and I picked them to win with ease.  I think I said they would win 37-7 and I was being nice giving the Vikings 7 points.  Welp, the ghost of Joe Webb, (who actually played in the game and can go to hell) struck again.  The Eagles got their asses handed to them by Minnesota, a team who had only won 3 damn games all season!  That was not supposed to happen.  I was pissed after that game but then the more I thought about it, I felt this was a loss they needed to bring them back down to earth.  I guess it worked because they came out last weekend and made the Bears their bitches.  The funny thing is, you would have thought they were playing for their playoff lives the way they came out last week.  For the first time I saw this team play 4 full quarters.  They stomped on their throats and held them down the entire game.  This was the team I waited to see for the last 15 weeks.

So, because Washington messed up the one job they had to do last week (beat Dallas), we get the pleasure to head into week 17 to play for all the marbles.  Winner moves on to the playoffs, loser goes home.  Eagles are picked to win this game Sunday Night and the line has even gone up since Tony Romo probably won’t be playing.  Everyone is talking about how easy this win is going to be, Cowboys don’t stand a chance, Eagles win by at least 2 touchdowns.  Remember what I said earlier and I hope you understand why I am picking the Eagles to lose this game 34-21.  This is a game we are supposed to win.  When we are supposed to do something, it usually goes the other way.  Do I think Dallas is a better team?  Hell no, I just know it’s time for us to get our hearts ripped out of our chests again.

Even though I don’t think we’ll win, I will be a nervous wreck up until kickoff.  Actually like many of you, I’ve been a nervous wreck since last Sunday night.   What are we going to do to keep our minds off of this game?  How are we going to survive til 8:30?  The stress of this game is killing me!  I am tired of hearing people say that if we lose it was still a good season because nothing was expected this year.  Please stop with that nonsense!  If we lose to Dallas, on the last day of the season in which we will be home watching the playoffs and they will be playing in the wildcard the next week, you better believe this is a disappointing season!  You do not lose to the Cowboys and call it a successful season under no circumstances.

Ok, let me calm down now.  My blood pressure is rising.  Let us all hope that I am wrong about my prediction because believe me, this is one time I won’t mind being wrong.
