This is not something that I really wanted to write about because for one, I know it is a very sensitive subject for a lot of people.  I know, last week I wrote a post about Rangers fans using the N word on twitter towards Wayne Simmonds but that’s as far as I wanted to go on the subject of race.  Over the last week, since hearing the tapes of Clippers owner, Donald Sterling and with his lifetime banned from the NBA and soon to be sale of the team, I have witnessed so many ignorant facebook posts, tweets and callers to our local sports radio stations.  These people are angry because this man made remarks (that some do not find racial) in the confinement of his own home to this V. dude and because of this he is being punished with the stiffest penalty ever given by the NBA. …

I cannot tell you how many callers I’ve heard on the Fanatic and WIP this week crying and asking why is it ok for black people to be racist but a big deal when it’s white people.  I even got into an argument on facebook and twitter with one gentleman and really, his posts are what got me to think really long and hard about this racism thing.  Let me just show you the posts from my man Chris before I go any further.

Chris’s original post on facebook which started this whole thing was him wondering why it’s only an issue when white people say something racist.  Now, let me get into the part that I really and truly never wanted to debate with anyone.

Racism as a whole needs to get lost.  There is no place on this earth for it.  Reading things like this make me so sick in my stomach and start to question every non minority I associate with and I hate that.  I hate looking or talking to one of my friends and wonder if they have the same feelings as Chris but I have found myself doing that so much lately and it bothers me.  What bothers me even more is knowing there are people out there that really feel black people should thank whites (as Chris called them in his tweet) because they have done so much for blacks over the years.  It bothers me knowing that people like Chris think that we owe them for letting our people be free and that we should feel privileged to have this freedom.  I said on that to get to this point.  I hate racism, I lived with my white grandfather from the time I was a little girl until I was in my 20’s and he was a racist.  He used the N word every day and even though I knew he hated black people, I knew he loved me and my daughters.  I also grew to understand that that was the era he grew up in.  The reason I’m saying this is, people always get mad and try to get into the “reverse racism” thing.  I know a lot of you will probably go crazy over this but, I understand why black people would have so much hate towards white people.  Let me explain.  I work with an older black woman and she does not like white people.  Every time she says something smart, I cuss her out but in reality, I understand.  The older generation of black people, grew up in the middle of all the racial tensions in this country.  They were the ones who had to deal with segregation.  They are the ones who were told to sit in the back of the bus.  Their ancestors before them were the ones who were slaves in this country.  Hell, I was born in the 60’s and I know how it felt.  Not to the extent they did but I was called a N all the time.  My mom was called a N lover when she would go places with me.  I was not allowed to go to the pool with my cousins because I wasn’t white.  I get it!  I was talking to two older black attorneys who frequent the courthouse all the time.  They told me about how hard it was for them to get into not just college but law school because they were black.  Listening to their stories, I couldn’t even imagine what they went through.  The thing about these two wonderful women is, they do not harbor any hard feelings towards anyone but really, I could understand if they did.  I’m not even sure if it’s that black people are racist towards whites as much as they just don’t trust them and I understand that too.  This is why when I see people like Josh Innes tweet about Spike Lee being racist it angers me because in reality, just like me, Spike has lived through the racism.  I know some of you are going to call me ignorant for what I have written and that’s fine.  Just know, I treat everyone the same (which is like shit) because I don’t like any race of people.   🙂

I wish I had the answers on how to stop racism once and for all but I don’t.  I just know that when I raised my daughters, I taught them many lessons of life with the biggest being to never treat anyone any differently because of their color, religion or anything else that makes them different from them.
